Artist, Ann Barbieri, gives demo on starting a new abstract painting
McLean Art Society presents a demonstration by local artist Ann Barbieri on how she begins a new painting.
Ms. Barbieri is recognized as “Artist of the Year” by the Friends of the Torpedo Factory (where her studio is based), and engages in numerous solo exhibitions — as well as twice selected by the U.S. State Department to exhibit her works for its Art in Embassies program.
Ms. Barbieri describes her art as “colorful abstracts” that often deploy oil, crayon, collage, and other media to convey a sense of joy, expectation, beauty, and energy. Ms. Barbieri begins a new work by adding paint in a gestural way, after which she returns to the surface to refine and polish the composition through doodling, scratching, and other methods. This event provides a unique opportunity to witness an artist applying brush to paper in the initial stage of creation and will inspire those who want to observe and learn from the well-honed techniques of an accomplished area artist.
This event is free and open to the public, and all ages are welcome to attend.
